This is a ceiling that was repaired in an older home built in the 1950’s or 60’s. In those days, wire mesh, brown board and base coat over 1” thick was used in the walls and ceilings. Water gets under neath the base coat and it separates from the ceiling. To repair these ceilings, you must scrape back all loose plaster, apply mesh tape to the entire area, and then apply a bonding agent in order for the new plaster to adhere. You then apply a scratch coat of plaster, and a finish coat that is feathered into the ceiling. These ceiling are notoriously difficult to repair, but with our expertise it is not a problem
